Each year our volunteers work with hundreds of sea turtle along the coastline of New South Wales. The North Coast branch, based in Ballina, is the home of ASRs Ballina Byron sea turtle hospital where many turtles are treated each year.
Volunteers also take part in a wide range of sea turtle conservation activities including nest identification and protection. In 2017 and 2018, we began a citizen science project called Sea turtle nest monitoring in northern New South Wales. We educate the community on many levels and regularly conduct marine debris clean-ups and social media campaigns.
The best part of our job, of course, is releasing a sea turtle that we have brought back from the brink of death. Our sea turtles are often released into the Cape Byron Marine Park.
Many thanks to CPR Management (www.cprmanagement.com.au) for producing this video of us releasing sea turtles!
